We wanted to kick off our treats and cheats section with the quintessential treat, chocolate chip cookies. These cookies are irresistible—soft, chewy, and best served fresh out of the oven. Try them with a fresh glass of coconut milk!

Note, these instructions are written assuming the standard serving size, since you have modified the number of servings, these steps may need to be modified for best results
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. In a medium-sized mixing bowl combine dry ingredients.
  3. In a small mixing bowl beat eggs, maple syrup, and vanilla extract with a hand mixer.
  4. Pour wet ingredients into dry and beat with hand mixer until combined.
  5. Melt coconut oil, pour into batter, and continue to blend until combined.
  6. Stir in chocolate chips.
  7. On a parchment-lined baking sheet, drop balls of cookie dough, about a tablespoon in size.
  8. Bake for 15 minutes.
  9. Let cool and serve with coconut milk.

    I tried these tonight and they were great! I did make one change to the recipe though. I put them in an 11 x 7 Pyrex dish and baked them for 30 minutes (could have been about 32-34 in my oven) Excellent bar cookies <– I'm too lazy to spoon all of the cookies out onto a cookie sheet :)

    amazing recipe. Make these weekly to satisfy my cookie habit without going the wheat route. Thanks so much. 14-15 mins in the oven at 375* is plenty, not sure what temp the one reviewer had the oven at but 30 mins and they’d be toast

    Love this cookie recipe! It’s always my go to recipe when I have to make a treat. Way better than any chocolate chip cookies with flour and sugar, for sure!

    LOVE! I’m new to paleo, and this is a great way to get a treat without totally blowing it. VERY filling too – I assume because of the protein in the almond flour. Won’t get that from regular four and sugar! :)

    I have made this recipe quite a few times now, and every time they come out wonderful! I love how the cookies hold their shape so well, and they always end up being much lighter than you might expect. However, the first time I made them I followed the recipe exactly, using all unrefined coconut oil. I found the end product a bit too “coconutty” for my taste. This last time I made them I decided to substitute butter in place of the coconut oil (I used the same measurements and followed the directions the same), and they turned out great! Exactly the same, minus the coconut flavor. Thanks for the great recipe, I will definitely make them again.

    Awesome! First Paleo dessert I’ve made that didn’t taste like I was on a diet. These things taste exactly like the cookie bars my mom used to make. Delicious!

    Thanks for this recipe, it’s excellent!

    However, I’ve come up with 2 modifications:

    Replace maple syrup with about 3 tablespoons of raw honey and 4 scoops of pure stevia extract powder (168 mg; I use KAL brand)

    Replace coconut oil with same amount of light coconut milk (the kind in a can, not the beverage kind). This has 3 benefits: (1) I had issues with coconut oil hardening when it came in contact with cold eggs if I wasn’t careful about the order I added things, no such problems, obviously. (2) Batter is a lot more fluid and easier to mix/work with. (3) Takes out about 1050 calories and replaces with just 80!

    The cookies are VERY good. They’re much lighter and fluffier than the original recipe. I have yet to see how they stand the test of time, as I just made the second modification today and by accident. Fresh from the oven, they’re great, we’ll see how they are tomorrow.

    Oh, and with my modifications, each cookie (if you made 24) has 140 calories. The whole batch has 3,365. Personally, I got 13 cookies at about 260 calories each. Still far from healthy, but they’re meant to be a treat. Oh yes, and I use 70% cacao chocolate chips.

    dlbmd: Not sure where you got 246 calories per cookie. By my calculation, it’s 190 calories.

    SamOhKay ~ Thank you for your health conscience modifications. These cookies were amazing as is, but I will try your tips next time.
    The great thing about these cookies was that my kids couldn’t even tell that I’d “tricked them” into eating gluten free. This is a huge victory for me as they usually suspect I’m up to something too healthy and thus unappetizing.
    Delicious.

    These cookies are so good. Better than a traditional choc. chip cookie. As is with most Paleo receipes. Food just tastes better and healthy for you :)

    These are EXCELLENT cookies! What a great alternative! However, my first attempt I followed the recipe and my batch came out very very dark and burnt on the bottom (I was using a dark non-stick cookie sheet). So I had to change my oven temp to 350 degrees and bake them for 10 minutes for them to come out perfectly.

    @canonshooter – almond meal is the same as blanched almond flour! The bag I bought actually said “Almond meal/blanched almond flour”.

    yeah you definitley cannot use coconut flour as a replacement. I had to throw out my entire batch because no matter how much oil, or coconut milk I added it still crumbles to pieces.

    I had a hankering for these cookies, but none of the correct ingredients. I gave it a go anyway. I subbed ground pumpkin & sunflower seeds (gave them a quick spin the magic bullet) in place of the almond flour, and subbed honey for the maple syrup. They only needed to bake for about 6 minutes, but they turned out perfectly! Not as rich and buttery as they are with almond flour, but perfectly chewy and delicious. And totally nut free! I’ve used this recipe with slight variations numerous times. As long as you watch them in the oven, they are pretty forgiving.

    I LOVE these cookies! In case anyone is interested, I make these without eggs (I’m allergic to ‘em) by using ground flax seed (2 Tbsp ground flax, 6 Tbsp very hot/boiling water). I’ve made them with eggs for my family and think that there is no discernible difference between the recipe with eggs or the ground flax egg replacer. So glad to have a go-to cookie recipe that my whole family can eat. They never last more than a day in my house.

    I LOVED these!! I made them for my non-paleo family to bring home when I visited this past weekend, and it finally proved to them that paleo eaters can have “fun and tasty” food, too! ;)
